QSM: Your artwork is amazing. How long have you been doing this?
JNess: Thank you, I have been a Graphic
Designer for 17 years, I have been doing Plus Size/BBW art for 10
years now.
QSM: When did you realize you had this talent?
JNess: I started drawing at a very young
age, having been born and raised in Brooklyn, New York eventually I took my
talents and applied them to a traveling art gallery… the subways - graffiti
art. I wasn't a great artist, but I knew the potential to improve was always
there, so I stuck to it.
QSM: Who would you attribute your talents to?
JNess: My earliest influences into this type
of art came from seeing the work of Ruben Esq. He is an amazing artist and his
work has always been a great source of inspiration.
QSM: I love his pieces too. Now are your pieces hand drawn or computer graphics?
JNess: I have traditional art work as well
as digital vector art. Very often, I find myself using a combination of these
mediums, especially with my themed work. I start out in pencil/ink sketches and
end up re-illustrating the piece in the computer. I enjoy the process, and
finding different ways to use the tools at my disposal. It depends on the look
I want and what the client is expecting.
QSM: I take it that you are a BBW lover? What do you love so much about big beautiful women?
JNess: I certainly am, what I love the most
about a big beautiful woman has to be first of all her silhouette. Her outline
is an invitation to create. A visual prompt to grab a pen, pencil, anything
that will help me replicate the beauty I see. She is a symbol of strength and
endurance. Picked on, made fun of, and discriminated, yet she rises above it
all knowing, that she invents herself and doesn't allow others to dictate who
she is. So yes, I am a BBW lover, you have to love and respect a true survivor.
QSM: Wow that is sexy how you broke that down. Tell me about your very first piece that you did?
JNess: The first piece I drew was called
"Big Red" it was part of a collection called "Scarlet
Memories", Scarlet was the name of my first plus size muse. This
collection features full figured women accompanied by products wrapped in
scarlet red packaging, hence the title Scarlet Memories.
QSM: Do you take special requests?
JNess: Yes, I do. I am always available for
hire. But when I have extra time I also do pro-bono work. It's nice to make
money, but it's even better when someone says, "your artwork made me feel
good about myself and the way I look".
QSM: Any final thoughts you would like to leave us with?
JNess: I would like to send a thank you to
all the people who have supported my work down through the years. And a special
thank you to the BBW of my house, my wife Michelle who gracefully allows me to
do what I do. We celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary in March 2012.God Bless
and remember… Bigger Art is Better!
